Re-booting Reboot
Supporting people into work by recycling computers neatly sums up Red2Green's Reboot project. Learners with Reboot learn how to refurbish and recycle PCs for local socially minded organisations and for re-sale to the public and businesses. Unusable components are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way, meeting waste directives and saving landfill.
Reboot is a place of transition; the first step into the world of work. Reboot offers learners a safe structured environment and a real work experience. As well as teaching learners how to recycle and refurbish computers, Reboot supports and trains them in other work skills they may be short of. For example: financial skills, stocktaking, business plans, team working, communicating and how to behave within a work environment.
Originally the brainchild of the late Kurt Doe, a Red2Green learner himself, Reboot has moved from a tiny corner in Red2Green's HQ, to a large shop at 297 Histon Road in Cambridge.
