The Stepping Stones Gallery of Achievements

Red2Green's learners each make huge personal progress, increasing independent living skills, and ultimately their chances of employment if they are looking for work. Red2Green is proud here to show just some of their recent achievements.

2008

Janet and her rhubarb

We are celebrating the achievements of one of our clients, Janet Woodbridge. Janet is a volunteer at the Burwell Museum and came up with a novel idea to support its recent Rhubarb Festival. Janet produced five booklets, Little Books of Rhubarb, which she wrote, had put into print and sold at the Rhubarb Festival in April to raise funds for the museum. We would like to congratulate Janet on her creative achievement. Thanks also to Maureen Hardy who typed up Janet's creative work and to Burwell Print who typeset and printed all five booklets.

Three cheers for Robert

In April Robert Good notched up a year's volunteering with Red2Greenhouse. In the picture he is being presented with a thank you cake from Ingrid Symonds. Well done and thank you so much, Robert!

Our first retail learner gets a job

Congratulations to Austin Taylor! He is the first learner from Red2Green's new retail course at the Cambridge Online Auction Shop to get a job, with Sony. In the photo, taken in April, Heather Taplin is presenting him with a bottle of bubbly and Red2Green's best wishes.

2007

One year achievement

Cake and certificates were the order of the day on 2 October, as Red2Green said a big "thank you" to David Botwright for notching up a year's worth of volunteering with us. He is a volunteer driver with Options, and a volunteer learning support assistant with Aspirations.

To read more about David's time with us see the last page of our Winter 2006 newsletter (opens as a PDF).

From volunteer to trainee

In September, Emma Casson, a learner with Amber, secured a trainee placement with Reboot after volunteering with the project. Pete Wickham, Reboot Manager, said: "I am delighted to offer this opportunity to Emma as she's been a fantastic and really dedicated volunteer".

One year celebration

In August, Red2Green presented Raymond with a thank-you cake and certificate to mark a whole year of volunteering. Raymond supports Oddjobbers with valeting cars and is a great member of the team. He's now also studying for an OCN qualification in valeting with us. Thanks for all your help, Raymond!

Paul takes a Stepping Stone into radio

In July, Paul McKay came to some of Red2Green's Stepping Stones courses (funded through Cambridgeshire Adult Learning Partnership's Adult and Community Learning Development Funding). They were clearly the catalyst for lots of change in his life: "I came to the Stepping Stones course - I found that I already knew some of the things we were learning about. In the same building is a Community Radio Station which I had been thinking about joining for a few years. I went to talk to them and began volunteering. I have learnt about the equipment used and am looking to put together my own show. They have just offered me the chance to do an NVQ. Going to the session has all definitely helped me." Congratulations Paul and we look forward to hearing you on air soon!

Nwabisa is an interview hopeful

In July, Nwabisa Tshetsha came to the Stepping Stones course (funded through Cambridgeshire Adult Learning Partnership's Adult and Community Learning Development Funding) and feels that she has learnt a lot about herself and more about the world of work. Following on from this she has used the application skills she has learnt to apply for a new post. She has been offered an interview and she now is using her interview handouts and adviser support to hopefully gain employment.

Health for Life learner wins prestigious award

In June, one of Health for Life's learners, Janet Spencer, won a Learner Endeavour Award at Cambridge Regional College's Festival of Achievement 2007. A big congratulations from everybody at Red2Green.

Ben and Elaine land 'sound' jobs

Ben Herriman and Elaine Slade in July secured jobs with Podium Sound, making top spec speakers. The two had been on work placement with Reboot, facilitated by the Amber project, and had graduated from Aspirations.

Jean is as proud as punch

Jean Wilson, of Options, achieved a Skills for Life certificate in literacy in July. Well done Jean!
